AI is taking over…your playlist!
We don’t know yet whether artificial intelligence will take over the world or not, but it certainly has taken up space in every conversation. Powerful tools that make our jobs even easier? Sign us up! And it seems that everyone’s favourite music player app Spotify has also gone down the AI route and introduced a new feature that will make our sonic space even more customized.
Spotify’s AI DJ is a new personalized guide that will select, curate, and play music that it specifically picks out for you, based on your likes and search history. The Spotify algorithm already did that, but the AI DJ takes it one step further.
Firstly, this DJ actually talks to you, and also has a name: DJ X (named after Spotify’s head of cultural partnerships Xavier Jernigan; apparently, it’s his voice we hear).
According to Spotify,
“Previously, X served as one of the hosts on Spotify’s first (and personalized) morning show, The Get Up. His personality and voice resonated with our listeners and resulted in a loyal following for the podcast. His voice is the first model for the DJ, and we’ll continue to iterate and innovate, as we do with all our products.”
Also, the AI DJ will also take breaks and talk to you between songs, sometimes sharing information about a particular track, or explaining why it selected a particular song. The experience will be like listening to a radio show was designed especially for you.
This latest addition understands the listener and their music taste so well, based on algorithms and music experts that Spotify consulted while designing this feature, that it can accurately choose what to play for them. So if you’re someone who likes to listen to Hasan Raheem and Taha G, AI DJ will put together a playlist for you and select songs from their albums, while also choosing other similar artists that you may like, which is an excellent feature because aren’t we always trying to discover the hidden musical talent in Pakistan?
The feature will be available to Spotify Premium subscribers across 50 markets around the world, including Pakistan. To find your personal AI DJ, open the Spotify mobile app on your iOS or Android device. From there, you have a few options:
- Use the Search bar—and type “DJ”
- From the Search tab, scroll to find your Made For You hub
- From, Home, tap Music to access your Music feed, then tap Play on the DJ
Then, you sit back and let the app do the rest! This is perhaps the furthest any music player app has gone in trying to connect us to the artists and genres that we love, and we can’t wait to see all the cool new artists it introduces to us.
