“I think I was very confident at the trailer launch of Na Maloom Afraad but now I’m just super conscious!” exclaimed Nabeel Qureshi, director of the film, as he opened the press conference. Qureshi, along with the cast and crew of Actor in Law, was gathered to release the trailer of FilmWala’s second venture exactly two years after Na Maloom Afraad.

Fahad Mustafa at Press Conference of the film Actor in LawThe stage was set and posters were up announcing the three lead-cast of the upcoming film Actor in Law, starring Fahad Mustafa, Mehwish Hayat and Indian veteran actor, Om Puri.

“This is the first time an Indian actor has flown in to play a part in a Pakistan production,” Nina, marketing head of Entertainment URDU 1 and representative of Urdu 1 pictures, excitedly shared, “up till now we had only seen Pakistani actors crossing the border to feature in film but not anymore!” Hey, Naseeruddin Shah played a pivotal role in Khuda Kay Liye and even Zinda Bhaag, remember!

Actor in Law is the brainchild of Nabeel and Fizza – the same dynamic duo behind the blockbuster film, Na Maloom Afraad that changed the game of Pakistani films thereon. Speaking about their experiences, both noted that the question of what they will be doing next is “haunting”. They are aware of the kind of expectations people associate with their name and they endeavour to fulfil just that. “We have our fingers crossed!”

“The best part about this film, other than the fact Mehwish and I worked so hard that we ripped our jeans, is that it tackles with social issues our communities faces in a way that is thought provoking rather than offending,” announced lead-actor, Fahad Mustafa, in his usual tongue in cheek manner. He also assured the media that it’s a full entertainment packaged film that will make the experience of watching a film worthwhile. Super sensational, Mehwish Hayat, however remained tight lipped about her role and expectations with the film. We assume that perhaps this Dillagi star is a wee-bit nervous about her solo-female lead in the film.

Other than the media and film fraternity, we managed to spot the evergreen Zeba Bakhtiyar and her son, Azaan, Humayun Saeed and Mahirah Khan in the first row, rooting on their fellow actors. Speaking to the press, Mahira claimed that she expected nothing but pure brilliance from Fizza and her crew. “I feel like this film will do wonders. I’ve heard the story and there is a lot to the film that the trailer shows.” Although she remained silent about her Bollywood experiences, she did hint that Raees is expected to release in January next year and how super psyched she is to sign a new Pakistani film in coming days.

Actor in Law’s international star cast, Alyy Khan and Om Puri also shared their excitement about the project by sending video messages. They informed the audience that they are nervous yet thrilled to be a part of this film that brings a fresh image of Pakistan. Actor in Law is scheduled to release on Eid Ul Azha under the banners of URDU 1 pictures. It’s the first of the channel’s film and by the looks of its trailer, we’re hoping that the star-cast and storyline is able match the success of previous Pakistani productions.
