Mehwish Hayat has proved her potential as an actor and an influencer. After being bestowed with the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan, which is the highest accolade any citizen of Pakistan can receive, she is aiming for a different career path.
In a recent interview on Aik Din Geo Ke Sath, the actor shared her hopes to debut in Pakistani politics.
During a Q&A session with the host, the Punjab Nahi Jaungi star shared that her interest in politics has developed in the past few years.
“It is something I want to pursue as a subject,” she said excitedly.
When the host asked her if she plans to pursue a career in politics, the actor replied with a positive “InshaAllah”.
“Will you practise politics through the parliament or through a political party?” the host asked.
“The intention is to help bring positive change in the country. Time will better tell whether that happens by entering parliament or by forming my own political party,” Mehwish answered adding that she’s particularly inspired by the politics of the PTI.
“I’m inspired by [their] politics because they’ve brought about good changes and a shift in societal thinking. Imran Khan was a cricketer before [he entered politics]. If a cricketer can become prime minister then surely an actress can also become one as well.”
The actor further revealed her interest in becoming Pakistan’s next female premier.
“I don’t want to challenge him (Imran Khan) but someone is bound to take his place later on and I can also become a contender for the prime minister’s position,” she said.
