This year saw some of the biggest successes in film that Pakistan has seen in a long time. Whether it was Punjab Nahi Jaungi turning into one of the highest grossing films in the country or just the sheer number of films released, it was an eventful year. However, it seems the magic that the year started with quickly died by the end.
According to numbers being released by various box-office collectors, both Rangreza and Arth – The Destination – which released on the same date – have done an abysmal job in cinemas despite only being in their first week of running.
In comparison to Rangreza, sources suggest that the Shaan Shahid starrer Arth has done better business, as it raked close to PKR 1 Crore in the first three days. However, given the huge budget, the ensemble film had, the numbers don’t do justice to the cost of production.
In contrast, the Bilal Ashraf, Urwa Hocane, and Gohar Rasheed starrer has slumped at the box office, according to sources, with a collection of about PKR 65 Lakhs in the first three days. However, if the numbers released by the Rangreza team are to be taken into account, the film grossed well over the PKR 1 Crore mark on the first day.
Will the films be able to survive given the situation? Keep checking this space for more information.
