Trailer out: Robert Pattinson is ‘vengeance’ in new ‘The Batman’

The first full trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman was released on Saturday night, and soon after fans of DC and the Dark Knight were not able to hold their excitement as love started pouring from all quarters for the dark and gritty Batman reboot.

The trailer starts with a hint about the main antagonist this time and it look like the Riddler will make an appearance in this movie. Most of the cast has been revealed; the trailer shows glimpses of Zoë Kravitz, as Selina Kyle who plays Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Paul Dano as the Riddler, and Colin Farrell’s remarkable transformation as Oswald Cobblepot aka the Penguin.

Robert Pattinson, who is a lanky fellow, has also put on muscle for the movie and looks the part as he wages a vengeful war against crime in the Gotham City. Pattinson can be seen as the mighty Bruce Wayne as well as the caped crusader in the trailer and he has nailed the performances in both the avatars.

The Batman we see in the trailer feels more violent and brutal than the one seen last in The Dark Knight Trilogy by Christopher Nolan, which gives the impression that the movie is really focusing on the character’s war on crime and corruption, but without some of the more fantastical elements.

“Right from the beginning, there’s a desperation to it. He’s really working out this rage,” said Pattinson during DC FanDome. “He doesn’t have a much control over his personality. The delineation between when he’s Batman and when he’s Bruce is not so clear. In other iterations, he really knows what he’s doing when he’s putting on the cowl. I kind of like this idea of it’s a little bit out of control. He hasn’t quite defined what Batman is. He gets lost in it,” he said.

As has been reported repeatedly, The Batman isn’t an origin story, but it focuses on a younger version of the character who is at the beginning of his crime-fighting career.

Not just fans, but filmmaker Zack Snyder, the director of Justice League, Man of Steel and many other films, has also been left impressed by the trailer. He shared it on Twitter and wrote to Matt Reeves “This is awesome.”
