Rajkumar Hirani’s latest venture Sanju –Â a biopic of Sanjay Dutt — continues to make history at the box-office raking in over INR 300 crore. It now appears that another biopic of Sanjay Dutt is in the works by director-producer Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) which is tentatively titled Sanju: The Real Story.
There’s no doubt that Hirani’s film has been a massive hit but it has also been criticised for whitewashing Dutt’s adventurous life and sweeping his connection with the controversial 1993 bombings in Mumbai under the carpet. An Indian publication quoted a source as saying that RGV loved watching Sanju for its emotional intensity but was disappointed how it dealt with the most questionable incident in Dutt’s life regarding the riots that tarnished his image to no end.
“That Dutt was doing drugs, was traumatised by his mother’s battle with cancer [she died just three days before the release of his first film Rocky], had multiple flings, many of them one-night stands, is all well documented,†said the source.
It is believed that RGV’s film will be all about delving into details which weren’t explained in Sanju.
