Veere Di Wedding was screened by the censor board and deemed unfit for exhibition in Pakistan due to “vulgar dialogues and obscene scenesâ€. While many Pakistanis raised their voice against the ban (the media almost unanimously opposed the ban), it seems that one of the actors in the Kareena-Sonam movie decided that the only way to get some attention (which was obviously going to Kareena Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor) was by making anti-Pakistan comments for quick publicity.
In an interview with Rajeev Masand (film critic for CNN News18) Bhaskar was asked to comment about the ban of VDW in Pakistan. She responded rather unceremoniously.
“I don’t know why people think I’m a spokesperson for the Pakistani government,” she said. “What do you expect from a state that’s run by Sharia Laws?” She later on added that Pakistan is a “failing state” and India should stop making it a point of discussion.
Have a look:
The Twitterati were quick to respond to Bhaskar’s comments and Urwa Hocane appeared to have the perfect reply.
Pakistan is the country that you @ReallySwara referred to,in 2015, as the “Best country you have ever visited†and it has only gotten better in the last few years in every aspect along with when it comes to having bigger hearts and welcoming our guests . 1/3

2/3 While you’re on this spree of empowering women,i must say you’ve become a bitter person. And all of this is odd coming from a citizen of a state that bans their own films i.e. #Padmavat so let’s not talk about women empowerment.

“This only reflects on you as an ignorant person who is also quite contradictory in her own statements. It’s not a failing state for sure but you come across as a “Failing Human Beingâ€,” Urwa, a citizen of the ‘Phenomenal Pakistan’ tweeted in response.
We’d like to add that by making these silly comments, Swara Bhaskar has achieved one of several things here. For starters, people actually know who she is now. Truth be told, we had to Google her to actually get a picture of who she is and the work she has done, most of which is a side role. Now, you may not have remembered her in Veere Di Wedding but you will remember her from this interview and the controversy that followed.
