Two-time Pakistani Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has been nominated for National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications [NAMIC] Vision Awards 2019 for her collaborative HBO Sports documentary Student Athlete.Â

The documentary film which is nominated in the Sports category focuses on the rules set out for American athletes which leave them and their families uncompensated. It is co-directed by Trish Dalton of Bordering on Treason fame and produced by National Basketball Association’s three-time basketball world champion, LeBron James’ production company.
Student Athlete reveals the reality of the exploitative high-revenue generating business of college sports by narrating the stories of four young athletic men who are at different stages in their sports careers.
Sharmeen is nominated along with other prominent nominees including Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Michelle Obama, Sesame Street and 2018 BET Awards to name a few. The award celebrates original content which showcases the contributions of people of colour who reflect the ethnic and cultural diversity of the audience.
