Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic period drama Padmaavat has collected Rs 212.50 crore in its 11-day run, making it a huge success! This also happens to be Bhansali, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh’s first film to cross the Rs 200 crore mark, making Ranveer one of the youngest actors in that league, along with actor Prabhas from Baahubali.
In a previous interview with Indian media, Ranveer said, “I had poured so much into the character, and the last 47 days were so hard on me. For the first time, I think, I let a character go immediately, that he didn’t even stay with me overnight.” Ranveer’s portrayal of Alauddin Khilji in Padmaavat has won him high acclaim, and an even larger fan base, even though Bhansali’s portrayal of Khilji was hugely distorted.
Padmaavat is Deepika Padukone’s third venture to cross the Rs 200 crore-mark, after Chennai Express and Happy New Year, and while Shahid Kapoor enters the club at the age of 36, Ranveer Singh does so at the age of 32. Reportedly, Sanjay Leela Bhansali also surpasses Sooraj Barjatya as the oldest director in the Rs. 200 Crore-Club, at the age of 54.
That’s a whole lot of record breaking and a whole lot of crores for Padmaavat!
