Mehwish Hayat has been appointed Goodwill Ambassador for ‘the rights of the girl child’ by Pakistan’s Ministry of Human Rights. She made the announcement on Twitter yesterday (Thursday), a day before the International Day of the Girl Child.
“I am delighted to announce that I have been appointed the Goodwill Ambassador for the rights of girls by the Ministry of Human Rights Pakistan. It is an honor for me to play an important role in getting girls their rights,†Mehwish tweeted. “I want to see a Pakistan where girls are given opportunities to receive education,†she added. Mehwish also appealed to the nation to help her in her mission to give girls the future they deserve.

Aside from her brilliant acting skills, Mehwish is also known for her humanitarianism. In March, she received Tamgha e Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan for her contribution in the world of entertainment. Last month the popular actress was awarded Pride of Performance by the Norwegian Prime Minister. In August, Mehwish also made it to the list — released by an international magazine The Muslim Vibe — of the top five Muslim women who are striving to make the world a better place to live in.
