Ellen has landed herself in hot water after a video of her with former US President George W Bush at a soccer game went viral. Known for her activism, the 61-year-old philanthropist faced intense backlash on being friends with Bush — an architect of the Iraq War and an opponent of LGBT rights.

The popular TV host — who came out as a lesbian in 1997 — defended herself by saying that it’s okay to be friends with people who do not think the way you do. “Be kind to everyone,” Ellen stressed on in a video she posted on Twitter.

Many Hollywood celebrities, too, were quick to comment on Ellen’s stance. While a few supported the Finding Dory Star, Mark Ruffalo slammed her for her take on the issue. “Sorry, until George W Bush is brought to justice for the crimes of the Iraq War, (including American-lead torture, Iraqi deaths & displacement, and the deep scars—emotional & otherwise—inflicted on our military that served his folly), we can’t even begin to talk about kindness,” The Now You See Me Star tweeted.

Unsurprisingly, the Avengers actor is being lauded for showing disapproval over Ellen’s remarks.
