Laal Kabootar actor Mansha Pasha recently took to Twitter to share her views on the Bollywood film Sardar Udham. The film stars Vicky Kaushal as the titular character Udham Singh, a revolutionary and contemporary of Bhagat Singh.

Mansha recommended the film to her fans and followers and called it a good history lesson.

“[Sardar Udham] is one of the most amazing movies I’ve seen lately. A good history lesson about the sacrifices the subcontinent had to give for independence. Recommend everyone to watch it,” she tweeted.

The film directed by Shoojit Sircar features the life of revolutionary Udham Singh, who was radicalised following the brutal massacre at the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919 at the hands of the British.

Amongst the 14 shortlisted films for India’s 2022 Oscars entry, Sardar Udham was one of the most popular contenders, however, it failed to make it.

Indian jury rejected Sardar Udham as India’s entry for Oscars stating that it projects hatred towards the British.

Explaining why the film wasn’t selected, Indian composer Indraadip Dasgupta told Times of India that Sardar Udham is a little lengthy and harps on the Jallianwala Bagh incident.

“It is an honest effort to make a lavish film on an unsung hero of the Indian freedom struggle. But in the process, it again projects our hatred towards the British. In this era of globalisation, it is not fair to hold on to this hatred,” he added.

Fans were upset by the jury’s decision.
