It seems that Bollywood has also found itself amid the #MeToo campaign which has previously taken Hollywood by storm, part of which includes a number of women coming out about facing sexual abuse at the hands of powerful men.
A woman claiming to be related to popular actor Jeetendra, whose given name is Ravi Kapoor, sent a two-page complaint to the HP Director General of police, seeking registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against him for a case of sexual assault. Reportedly, according to the complaint, the alleged incident took place in January 1971, when the victim was 18 and Jeetendra was 28. Reportedly, Jeetendra is the complainant’s maternal cousin.
Advocate Rizwan Siddiquee, representing Jeetendra, said the complaint made baseless claims. “Foremost my client categorically denies any such incident. Even otherwise such baseless, ridiculous and fabricated claims cannot be entertained by any court or police after a span of almost 50 years,” he told the Indian media.
