Drama serial Ishq Hai, starring Minal Khan and Danish Taimoor, recently concluded and despite being criticized for several reasons, it was one of the most trending dramas during its airing time. In terms of views and ratings, Ishq Hai is one of the most successful dramas of this year. In order to find out went behind the making of such a drama, Hassan Choudary of Something Haute had a conversation with the writer, Rehana Aftab, who has also written scripts for Faryaad and Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi.

Rehana explained that it is quite difficult for a newcomer to enter into the industry and make a place as a writer.

“I gave my idea to one production house but we were unable to understand each other’s perspectives, perhaps because I have not learnt script writing from anywhere. The project never materialized. After a few years, the team of Next Level Entertainment approached me again and then we worked on Faryaad,” she said, adding, “I read a few scripts and learnt through my observation by watching dramas. It was my passion that helped me achieve this success.”

Later, she was approached by Big Bang Entertainment for Ishq Hai. “I gave them a story which was approved quickly by the channel and production house and then I was asked to write the first episode. However, things took an interesting turn because I wrote a very romantic first episode; the story turned from a sad and sensitive topic to a romantic one. And it all happened by accident that they liked the romantic angle more and wanted me to work and make a drama based on it.”

“Initially, the story was based on a social issue but the team felt that PEMRA may took a notice of it and ban it later, therefore, we dropped it,” she added.

Did Rehana feel that Shahzaib was a hero?

“I am very satisfied with the message that I wanted to give through Ishq Hai. I wanted to raise a question on why parents force marriages on their children and don’t consider or value their interests. Our society still have issues with social statuses or children’s choices,” she said.
