“Main Punjab nahin jaungi,” Mehwish Hayat says defiantly, to which Humayun Saeed replies, “Main maroon ga toh aana parey ga na tunhein?” These are the only two dialogues in the two minute teaser that launched an hour ago.
The teaser opens to what appears like a grand mansion in Punjab. Humayun Saeed makes an entry as what appears to be the head-honcho of the village. Saba Hamid looks like his mother and Urwa Hocane the girl his mother wants him to marry. Mehwish Hayat most definitely is the ‘foreign-return’ rebel, who plays basketball and is overall boisterous and un-pakeezah like. He’ll fall for her and she’ll resist. This does appear to be the nutshell of the story. We could be totally wrong though.
What we can say is that everything looks so good. Humayun looks the part, Mehwish has nailed the rebellious heroine and Urwa looks beautiful in whatever role she has. The brief glimpse of Ahmed Ali Butt suggests at fun, comic sequences. The picturization is impressive and the colours vivid. Nadeem Baig may have recreated some of the Dillagi magic here but he does make an impression.
However, does all this appear to be writer Khalil ur Rehman’s deja vu moment? Does it seem like we’ve seen this story before? Not once but many times? It’s unfair to judge just by the teaser. The story could surprise us completely. And even if it doesn’t and actually is as predictable as the teaser cuts it out to be, we won’t mind because it looks slick and we need a feel good movie more than anything else.
So, Punjab Nahin Jaungi? We’ll go with it!
