A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against renowned Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap for a case of sexual misconduct that allegedly occurred in 2013, as filed by actress Payal Ghosh.
Taking to Twitter, Payal had accused Anurag of sexual misconduct, claiming that the director raped her in 2013 at his home on Yari Road in Versova. Earlier in her tweets and interviews, she had accused him of molestation. Payal and her lawyer also tried to file an FIR on Monday at the Oshiwara police station but were told to compile a written statement and file it at Versova police station as the place of the incident come under their jurisdiction.
According to Payal’s lawyer, Nitin Satpute, “an FIR has been lodged for rape, wrongful restraint, wrongful confinement and outraging the modesty of a woman. The statement of the victim has been recorded.”
The police official said that the FIR was registered under the Indian Penal Code Sections 376 (I) (rape), 341 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrongful confinement), and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty).
The official added that they would investigate the matter in detail before deciding the further course of action, as the complaint is based on an incident that took place seven years ago.
Anurag Kashyap has denied these allegations in a series of tweets and his lawyer also released a press statement claiming them to be ‘false, malicious, and dishonest’. The statement was also shared on Kashyap’s social media accounts where he called out Payal’s claims an attempt to ‘silence’ him for his outspoken views.

Many Bollywood actresses also came forward to speak in support of Kashyap after these allegations went viral on social media. On the other hand, three actresses that Payal mentioned in her accusation, including Richa Chadha, Huma Qureshi and Mahie Gill as Kashyap’s other victims, have refused her claims. Reportedly, Richa Chadha has also sent her a legal notice for defamation.
