It must be embarrassing for a mega star of Amitabh Bachchan’s stature to wake up to find himself 60,000 Twitter followers short, in the middle of a Twitter bid to remove fake followers from (famous) accounts, and now the second most popular personality on the social media platform in India. After losing followers in the Twitter sweep, Big B fell to number 2 with 32.2 million followers whereas Shah Rukh Khan – maintaining his 33 million – automatically took the number one spot.
The 75-year old wasn’t too happy about it.
“T 2599 – TWITTER ..!!!?? you reduced my number of followers .. !!??HAHAHAHAHAHAHA .. !! thats a joke .. time to get off from you .. thank you for the ride .. .. there are many ‘other’ fish in the sea – and a lot more exciting !!”
In a bid to remove fake accounts on the micro-blogging site, more than a million followers of a dozen prominent users has been significantly reduced, a report by New York Times stated. Of late, the micro-blogging site has been subjected to ever increasing scrutiny with respect to its fake accounts and the shadowy firms that hawk fake followers. It’s unclear whether this is why Bachchan lost his numbers but then it’s too much of a coincidence.
Question is, is he threatening to quit Twitter because he feels insulted or because he can’t stand being number two?
