Former Pakistani and now Indian musician Adnan Sami entertained a crowd with his performance on Friday night in Sharjah’s Al Majaz Amphitheatre.

Sami has lent his voice to some of the biggest Bollywood superstars and contributed to the success of a number of blockbuster films. The singer was said to be in his true element at the event, repeatedly responding to the cheers and requests of his fans to perform.

He performed a number of successful songs such as ‘Bheegi, bheegi raton mein’, ‘Yeh zameen ruk jaye’, ‘Kabhi toh nazar milao’ and ‘Ishq hota nahin sabhi ke liye’. Not only did he apparently mesmerize the audience through his power-packed vocals, he also charmed them with his piano playing skills. Sami is reported to be able to play up to 35 instruments.

The Adnan Sami show was presented by Al Majaz Amphitheatre, an initiative of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB) and while we can appreciate his skills as a musician, we do find it bittersweet that he would be in Sharjah, performing at a Stadium, while not even acknowledging PSL happening next door. Even Sanjay Kapoor, in Dubai for a project, dropped in for the opening ceremony. It’s one thing to change your passport but another to erase your past. We can’t appreciate Sami for the latter.
