Pakistani artists are restricted from working in Bollywood, however, it seems that there is no restriction in recreating Pakistani classics without giving due credit. Bollywood’s assault on iconic songs continues with Zaalima Cola Cola which has been recreated for the anti-Pakistan movie Bhuj: The Pride of India.

Zaalima Coca Cola starring Nora Fatehi has been sung by Shreya Ghoshal and the music has been given by Tanishk Bagchi. While the song has received over 40 million views in just three days, the track seems to be a remake of Pakistani singer Noor Jehan’s song by the same name which was released in 1986.

The remake hasn’t been received well by fans. Many social media users criticised the film for not giving the original due credit. “India boycotting Pakistani artists and then remaking their songs is hypocrisy at its best! #ZaalimaCocoCola originally sung by Noor Jehan is iconic,” stated a user.

Another user wrote that the recreation doesn’t come close to the original track. “Zaalima Coca Cola Pila De was originally sung by Madam Noor Jehan. no one No one can even touch madam’s voice.”

Back in 2016, the soft drink brand collaborated with Meesha Shafi and Umair Jaswal and paid tribute to Noor Jehan by recreating the classic.

The movie, Bhuj: The Pride of India, is loosely based on events that occurred during the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. The trailer features an Indian Airforce pilot’s chase after Pakistan’s Air Force bombs an airbase during the war.

The movie featuring Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha will release on Disney+ Hotstar in August.
