Movie buffs worldwide who were eagerly waiting for the sequel of Wonder Women must rejoice!
They will get to see the film — Wonder Woman 1984 — on Christmas Day. Warner Bros. has made an announcement on Wednesday that the superhero sequel will debut on the streaming service HBO Max on December 25, the same day it will open in movie theaters in the US.
Internationally, where HBO Max is not available, Wonder Woman 1984 will premiere in cinemas one week earlier, on December 16. Earlier in September, Disney released Mulan on Disney+, but unlike that launch, Wonder Woman 1984 will stream on HBO Max for a month at no additional cost to subscribers.
“This is an amazing film that really comes to life on the big screen and, working with our partners in the exhibition community, we will provide that option to consumers in the US where theaters are open. We realize that a lot of consumers can’t go back to the movies due to the pandemic, so we also want to give them the option to see Wonder Woman 1984 via our HBO Max platform,” said Ann Sarnoff, chair and CEO of WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Group, which includes Warner Bros. Pictures.

This is a sequel to 2017’s Wonder Woman in which Gal Gadot will reprise the titular character as one of DC Comics’ biggest female superheroes. Chris Pine also returns for the sequel, which is set in the 1980s, decades after the World War I-set first movie. Patty Jenkins has directed the film.
