With just ten days under its belt, Cake has already quenched the dry spell that had taken over the local films’ box office collection.
According to independent box office websites and sources, the film starring Adnan Malik, Aamina Sheikh, and Sanam Saeed has reached the PKR 5 Crore mark by its tenth day of running.
While Cake had already crossed PKR 4 Crore before the weekend, the rush over Saturday and Sunday has pushed the numbers high. Reportedly, the film has witnessed a sharp increase in sales by its second Saturday of running as numbers went up by 70% in the urban population around the country. In Karachi, the numbers have almost doubled.
That being said, reports also suggest that the film has not been able to hold onto the mass circuit – i.e. the massive Punjab interior market, where the film has struggled amidst poor numbers from day one. Cake, still however, has managed to keep its footing strong in front of Bollywood hits such as Baaghi 2, which has done massive business in the Pakistani market since its release.
Previously, Adnan Malik also spoke about the film’s continuous success and the need for such films.
“We need a film like Cake to do well at the box office so that other producers, who are gatekeepers of the industry, are inspired to put money into other films like Cake,†Adnan told Something Haute. “This film has to inspire others to tell more personal stories that aren’t cookie cutter, derivatives of Bollywood.
Will the film continue its sweet success story over the week? Time – and the box office – will tell!
