With the self-imposed ban on Indian films repealed, this week has turned out to be an extremely positive one for cinema owners across Pakistan. Whether it was news that the Shah Rukh and Mahira Khan starrer Raees has been allowed to release or Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s official approval for screening Bollywood films, it has proven to be a week to count the silver linings.
However, it seems some more good news is in the offing as the film that started all the controversy, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, is all set to release in the country three months after its release as well.
According to sources close to the Ministry of Information, National Heritage and Archives, the Fawad Khan starrer is all set for release on February 3rd and has been given a no objection certificate (NOC), after which other films such as Dangal and Kaabil, will also be given a go-ahead.
Despite all the drama that enshrouded the films and the Indo-Pak situation, the release of Bollywood films came after hue and cry from cinema owners who reported losses going up in millions due to cinema screens showing to empty cinema houses and low attendance.
Now, with the latest move, one can only wait and see how Bollywood fares in the Pakistani market, especially with the self-created competition between Raees and ADHM in cinemas across the country.
