With Indo-Pak tensions on the rise, people are arguing that it’s a good step for Pakistani cinema to ban Bollywood films. While we can’t say we agree with that, Pakistani films are definitely getting more promotion and mileage. The three Eid releases were also a redeeming point for Pakistani cinema, with all three films, Actor-in-Law, Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai and Janaan, doing really well at the box office.
Another film that is about to be released soon is Jeewan Hathi, which will hit the screens on 4th November. This film seems promising due to the fact that it’s made by the same people who made Zinda Bhaag, a film which won fourteen national and international awards. Also, the film features Bollywood legend Naseeruddin Shah, an actor who has time and time again professed his love for Pakistani cinema and theatre.
The movie is directed by Meenu Gaur and Farjad Nabi and written by Faseeh Bari Khan along with Hina Dilpazeer, Naseeruddin Shah, Kiran Tabeer, Fawad Khan, Samiya Mumtaz and Adnan Jaffer as the main leads.
“We have worked really hard on the movie and the credit goes to our entire team for working hard day and night. This thriller/comedy movie is an attempt by our team to entertain the audience and we hope the people who visit the cinema would enjoy every bit of the movie†says the director Meenu Gaur.
The story of Jeewan Hathi looks very interesting: It’s about the life of a happily married middle-class couple that goes to a morning show and finds their marriage tested and on the brink of breaking down. Pakistani morning shows have the power to do that actually. We’re also glad that Hina Dilpazeer will be using her comical prowess to make fun of one aspect of our television which everyone loves to hate.
