With our actors experimenting only between the world of film and television, there are a few that go the extra mile and put their skills to test. One such example is Ahsan Khan, who is all set to make his debut on the proscenium arch in the United Kingdom with the Sufi musical, ISHQ.
Running at Sadler’s Well Theatre, which is one of the oldest in London, the play re-tells the story of Heer Ranjha in English and stars Ahsan Khan and Rasheeda Ali – a British actress, in lead roles. Apart from the pair, Adnan Jaffar will also be seen in the play in as Kaido, the main villain.
Talking to Something Haute about his debut in theatre, Ahsan Khan spoke about the reasons for choosing theatre as his next move.
“I wanted to feed my passion,†the actor said. “In my point of view, I am doing things which other actors at my stage might not even prefer doing it in Pakistan. It’s my way of learning and doing things in a different way and I want to break the stereotypes,†he added.
The actor who has two films releasing soon feels that after all the work he has done, doing theatre was a unique choice.
“I’ve just finished two films in Pakistan, Chupan Chupai and Rehbara, and after that, I didn’t want to do anything else apart from something different. So, I felt that this was the next thing to do, especially since I have never done any theatre before this, let alone in English,†Ahsan explained.

Speaking about choosing skill and craft over monetary reasons, Ahsan stated that feels that his passion drives him and not the latter.
“I don’t think many people prefer doing such things at a high point in their career; they prefer earning money. I had so many options back in Pakistan and many scripts lying around to do, but I work on my own choice and for my own passion. Thus, I wanted to do this for the love of my work, my art, and my skills so I can further polish it in a different way,†he said.
