You don’t get to hear about a Pakistani cinema and Bollywood collab every day, and thus, when makers of Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 announced that their film will feature a few Indian actors, it was taken as a positive sign. Now that the film is inching closer to its release, do you know Sonam Kapoor was meant to be a part of it as well?
“The original plan was to shoot this film in India,” JPNA2 writer and actor Vasay Chaudhry told Something Haute. “For this, we even went to Mumbai and did our recce. There was news back then in 2016 that we had offered the film to Rishi Kapoor; that’s true. But, what a lot of people don’t know is that we also met Anupam Kher back then, who – while I was really apprehensive of taking into our film given that his wife [Kirron Kher] was a BJP MLA – was really kind to us and heard the script. However, unfortunately, the situation took a turn for the worse [Uri attacks happened].”

Vasay also confirmed to us that the JPNA2 team that visited India in 2016, had also contacted Sonam Kapoor.
“We contacted Sonam’s team and had sent her the script as well but unfortunately the process had to come to a halt because just three weeks after our visit to India, Uri attacks happened that put a huge strain in India-Pakistan relationship,” he said.
Although now the film would be impossible to think of without the stellar cast that it currently has, we can’t get over the fact that we were this close to fostering ties with Bollywood.
Would the film have changed the face of Pakistani cinema and Bollywood’s friendship if it was made as planned earlier? Tell us in the comments section below.
