Renowned footwear company Bata has just landed itself in hot water with their latest banner ad. The ad on display at the store features a male model with the words ‘womanizer & comfortable with it’ emblazoned across and we have to ask what exactly is this trying to imply? By definition, a womanizer is ‘a man who engages in numerous casual sexual affairs with women,’ and since when is that a feat to be celebrated?
Naturally, the ad is facing backlash from the public at large via social media and people are demanding an explanation. Since all marketing strategies have to go through multiple approvals, it is quite a shock to think that multiple individuals gave this one a go ahead. It is unacceptable for any brand, let alone a known one like Bata, to promote sexism and misogyny.
