The actress has been named as the female celebrity of the year by the UK’s most influential Asian newspaper, Eastern Eye. The A-list Pakistani star was competing against famous South Asian celebrities such as Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra.
Eastern Eye’s entertainment editor — Asjad Nazir — revealed that they have chosen Mahira Khan as the woman of the year because she is an inspirational individual who has represented her country on multiple platforms, leaving footprints for other Pakistani women to follow.
“A lot of female celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and British actress Jameela Jamil went beyond their stardom. Mahira Khan has not only made a real difference, but also empowered a generation of women in Pakistan. She is an inspiration for working mothers; not only she has raised money for charity, highlighted important social causes, but is also an impressive ambassador for her country on a global stage,” Asjad Nazir said.

“Just as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan opened the doors for Indian leading ladies on an international stage with her appearance on the Cannes red carpet in 2002, Mahira did the same for Pakistani stars with her appearance at the same film festival this year,†Asjad added.
