Bilal Lashari’s The Legend of Maula Jatt (TLOMJ) has been surrounded by controversy for a long time. The producers of the film have been fighting a legal battle over its title, origin and names and there seems to be a new twist in the tale every week.
In a recent development, Sindh High Court has issued a stay order against the ‘so-called’ sole proprietor of Bahoo Corporation, Sarwar Bhatti, restraining him from making any defamatory statements against TLOMJ and its makers.
In a series of shocking revelations last week, it has come to light that Bahoo Films Corporation — the production house behind Maula Jatt of 1979 — in fact had six partners. Sarwar Bhatti, who had claimed to be the sole owner of the 1979 film, has repeatedly filed a copyright infringement claim on the same ground against TLOMJ director Bilal Lashari and producer Ammara Hikmat.
Speaking to Something Haute, Ammara Hikmat has now shared that Sarwar Bhatti and his clan, who have been posing as the rightful owner of Maula Jatt’s rights for the past three years, have been exposed.
“Bahoo Corporation which was running a defamatory campaign against The Legend Of Maula Jatt, claiming there is a stay order on the film have been issued a stay order by Sindh High Court today. The producer of Maula Jatt — who was recently exposed by his partners legal heirs in Bahoo Corporation — didn’t refrain from spreading malicious and misleading news about legal status of TLOMJ even though Lahore High Court cleared that there is no stay order on Bilal Lashari’s film. Therefore a case was filed in the Sindh High Court, under it’s civil jurisdiction before Mr. Justice Junaid Ghaffar,” Ammara said.
Ammara also shared that they will be announcing the release date of The Legend of Maula Jatt very soon.
Sindh High Court has issued a stay order against the party that had been posing for the past 3 yrs as the rightful owner of MJ rights, i.e Mr. Bhatti and clan, restraining them from defaming #TheLegendOfMaulaJatt and its makers. #MaulaJatt
