Film enthusiasts should rejoice as a film starring British actor of Pakistani descent — Riz Ahmed — is all set to join the lineup of this years’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The fest will screen the multitude of films that have Oscar aspirations.
TIFF just revealed its lineup for this year’s Platform section, and it is an interesting combination of new directors and veterans, with different genres and filmmaking styles, providing a nice 10-film list that is not dominated by A-list stars and Oscar hopefuls. Though, that doesn’t mean there isn’t enough star power and awards-worthy content premiering.

One of the standouts of this year’s Platform section is Sound of Metal, from filmmaker Darius Marder. The film stars Riz Ahmed as a heavy metal drummer who is dealing with the sudden loss of his hearing. Olivia Cooke co-stars in the film. Riz Ahmed took to Instagram and announced that his film will premiere at TIFF.
The 2019 Toronto International Film Festival will begin on September 5.
