Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar known to millions as the “nightingale of India” passed away on Sunday, February 6 at the age of 92.
She passed away in a Mumbai hospital after being admitted to its intensive care unit on January 11 with Covid-19 symptoms.
“I am anguished beyond words,” India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared on Twitter. “The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled.”

She ruled playback singing in Bollywood for decades and won international fame. The global dignitary’s demise was mourned by Indian and Pakistani celebrities as well as politicians.
Federal Minister for information &Broadcasting Government of Pakistan Fawad Hussain took to Twitter and grieved the demise of the legendary singer.
“A legend is no more,” the PTI leader penned. “Lata Mangeshkar was a melodious queen who ruled the world of music for decades she was the uncrowned queen of music. Her voice shall keep ruling the hearts of people for all times to come.”

Lata Mangeshkar’s extraordinary career spans over half a century, singing more than 30,000 songs across 36 languages. One of Bollywood’s biggest directors, Yash Chopra, wrote for the BBC that he saw “God’s blessings in her voice”.
