Like many other things, wedding shenanigans have completely changed in our part of the world with modern times. Bridal wear has drastically transformed into bold and contemporary silhouettes, but the label – Zara Shahjahan – has always remained synonymous with styles that keep us rooted to our heritage and tradition. The designer has made an effort to stay true to the core of an eastern bride. Though many others have attempted to add this vintage quotient to their capsules, but the quintessential Zara Shahjahan bride is one who takes us back in time and evokes nostalgia like no other.

Zara misses those days of yore and hence decides to introduce traditionally rooted weddings to the modern bride in her vintage bridal collection, Shaadi Wala Ghar.

Zara Shahjahan

As the name of the bridal range suggests, it is all about what happens in a bride’s house prior to the Big Day. The emphasis lies on little details that used to give weddings a home-y feel. The concept is inspired by stories the designer was told about her parents or other family member’s weddings. Zara Shahjahan has ventured into the bridal trends of the 80s and 90s and has recreated them keeping in mind the brand’s signature ethos.

Vintage cuts and designs spanning styles and eras as well as heavily inspired pieces from classic bridal trousseau are the highlight of her design philosophy in Shaadi Wala Ghar. Back in the 80s and 90s, there were no make-up artists or salons to visit, the joras were usually adorned with gota and kiran by elderly women. Retro looks ruled the shaadi wear and blue eye shadow was a staple. Ubtan and mehendi were essentials to be applied on a bride. Zara’s assortment relives all those traditions with an added element of contemporary fashion.

The period influences in Shaadi Wala Ghar takes us back in time. Zara Shahjahan has successfully turned vintage into novel and chic again in this campaign. The designer has constantly endeavored to elevate hey days of eastern fashion and bridal wear and Shaadi Wala Ghar is a perfect example of her triumph. The ensembles in Zara’s bridal collection have beautiful handcrafted details such as gota work, sequins, boti work, accentuated shalwars and heirloom jewellery. You will also find chatapati work in pretty eye-popping shades. Who wouldn’t remember moms and grandmothers rocking those sophisticated heirloom pieces? These baubles have a vintage feel to them and look exquisite when paired with anything festive.

Shaadi Wala Ghar is reminiscent of everything that once was and will always be associated to some of the most cherished moments of our parent’s life. Not only the collection but the imagery will take you down a memory lane. One peek at the visuals and you will recall such eventful happenings reiterated by your mom and dad. Or you have seen it in pictures how our mother’s khala or a cousin did her makeup or some neighbour had applied mehendi on her hands. Have you ever observed some of the things which were absolute musts in all old wedding albums? White table clothes, steel chairs with red upholstery, crates of Pepsi and Fanta bottles and firni were some of the pre-dominant elements in all of them.

For those who wish to live the traditions that once ruled our hearts, Shaadi Wala Ghar collection is available now at Manzil bridal studio.
