Literally meaning ‘the tenth’, Youm-e-Ashura marks the 10th day of the month of Muharram and the day when Imam Hussain (AS) embraced martyrdom in the Battle of Karbala. If there’s one sacrifice that is lamented world across and rightfully so, it is that of Hussain (RA) and his family that stood up against the tyrannical rule of Yazid. Commemorated worldwide as The Great Sacrifice, Ashura brings with it a reminder of Hussain’s life and principals that he fought for.
Several of our celebrities took time out from their schedules in respect and remembrance and posted what Ashura meant to them.
“Remember me when the truth becomes alone, alone and sad,” Mahira Khan posted a quote of Imam Hussain.
So much to remember.. so many lessons to be learnt.. lest we forget. #MuharramUlHaram pic.twitter.com/Wt9MdOv9r1
