Renowned film and drama director Mehreen Jabbar has geared up to revive and remake her 90s telefilm Farar [Escape] as a web series 25 years later. The telefilm narrated the journey of three friends cruising through Karachi, trying to carve a path for themselves.

The director took to Instagram to make the announcement and posted shots of the 90s telefilm juxtaposed with a pictures from the upcoming web series.

“Twenty-five years later, three friends trying to get by and shine in the glorious and mad city that is Karachi. From old Farar to a new Farar. Coming this year,” Mehreen wrote.

The 90s telefilm featured actors Sania Saeed, Huma Nawab and Marina Khan as the three seemingly imperfect but  perfect women. Set in Karachi, the story explored the journey of three friends with clashing personalities as they try to navigate life with all its challenges. Farar was a hit in the 90s and the audience loved it.

The new web series with the same title, will explore a somewhat similar storyline but with new faces. Earlier, the three friends used to drive a red Volkswagen Camper and now we spotted a red open SUV.

The cast of new Farar includes Sarwat Gilani, Mariam Saleem and Maha Hasan as the leading ladies, accompanied by Tooba Siddiqui, Zahid Ahmed, Salma Hasan, Hina Bayat and Saleem Meraj amongst others. Mehreen tagged a lot of people on her post including a breed of new actors.

Maha Hasan and Mariam shared on Instagram that they have wrapped the shooting for the series.

The web series is written by Rida Bilal, and is being produced for Indian streaming platform Zee5. It will come out this year.

Mehreen Jabbar is a household name, recognized by all Pakistani TV viewers for her incredible contribution to Pakistani dramas. The director has given masterpieces Doraha, Kahaniyaan, Malaal, Daam, Mata-e-Jaan Hai Tu, Jackson Heights and many more. She has films like Ramchand Pakistani and Dobara Phir Se to her credit as well as the Zee5 web series Ek Jhoothi Love Story.
