Pakistani artists are doing wonders with international collaborations and the most recent to hit our radar is a cross-border alliance for a global OTT platform. Pakistani signer Meesha Shafi has sung a song — Mere Mahru — for Indian web series Hush Hush on Amazon Prime.
The new song dropped on YouTube on Saturday and took everyone by surprise as we heard a familiar female vocalist. It is composed by Arijit Datta and penned by Sameer Rahat, while Meesha’s soulful voice gives life to the deep emotions expressed in the lyrics about matters of the heart. The song aptly describes the theme of the series where four women are bonded by secrets.
The show stars starring Juhi Chawla, Soha Ali Khan, Kritika Kamra, Karishma Tanna, Shahana Goswami, Ayesha Jhulka, Chaitanya Chaudhry, Kavya Trehan, Vibha Chhibber, Benjamin Gillani, Nitish Kapoor, Bharti Sharma, Jaimini Pathak amongst others.
Directed by Tanuja Chandra, Kopal Naithani and Ashish Pandey, the series falls in a mystery, crime and thriller genre. The official description of the series on YouTube states: “After a dangerous encounter at a party, four friends find themselves hurling down a rabbit hole of lies, deceit and secrets. As their safe, privileged world turns dark and dangerous, the secrets they keep become the bond for their survival. An intelligent cop is in pursuit, as the four friends try to keep up this deception.”
Tanuja Chandra took to Instagram and shared how she felt when she heard the song for the first time.
“Finally, it’s out. Right from the time I heard the first scratch tune that composer, Arijit Datta sent me as a voice-note, I loved it. I’m so happy to have it in Hush Hush, it’s kind of the beating heart of the series. Written beautifully by Sameer Rahat, the vocals are in Meesha Shafi’s gorgeous voice,” she wrote.

Meesha Shafi thanked the director for trusting her on her Instagram Stories. “Thank you for trusting me with this Tanuja Chandra. Arijit Datta and Sameer Rahat it was an absolute pleasure to sing this most special song.”
Chandra re-shared Meesha’s Story and shared that she is glad to find Meesha. “And I thank you Meesha for singing for us from across oceans. I’m so glad your name came to my mind one fine day and asked Sania Saeed if she could get me your number.”
