Mahira Khan is the face of many social causes and she is one of those celebs who use their influence to advocate for a change in society. Recently, Mahira has been appointed as an ambassador for British Asian Trust. She is one of the celebrities appointed as part of the Trust’s ‘Peace of Mind’ campaign which aims to create awareness on mental health issues stigmas.

Mahira and the Trust announced the big news on social media.

“I am proud to come on board as one of the official ambassadors for the British Asian Trust for their work In South Asia. Even prouder, to be able to spread awareness about mental health with their campaign ‘Peace of Mind’ in Pakistan,” she wrote.

“In Pakistan 1 out of 4 people are suffering from some sort of mental health issue. Unfortunately, even now mental health is a subject which is taboo and there are stigmas attached to it.
Untreated mental health issues can have a devastating impact on individuals, families, lives and relationships. Talking more about mental health, breaking the stigma around it and helping more people access support is so important – so they can have peace of mind. No one should ever have to suffer in silence,” she added.

Mahira also urged her followers to learn about mental health issues and stop treating them as taboo subjects.

“I request you all to inform yourselves about mental health… whether it is about you or someone else who might be suffering, it is important to be aware and informed.”

“In Pakistan, the Trust’s pioneering work in mental health has already reached 28 million people via SMS campaigns and social media activity. Over 46,000 people have attended mental health awareness raising sessions in their communities and been screened for mental health issues. Training has also been provided to 2,000 frontline health practitioners in basic mental health awareness,” she elaborated.
