Very few actors get praised equally for their beauty and their craft. Most of the time, their beauty overshadows their craft and they only get noticed and appreciated for the way they look. However, this is not the case with newcomer Dur-e-Fishan Saleem who has proved that she is not here to bank on her beauty only.
In conversation with Hassan Choudary of Something Haute, she admitted that it was fairly easy for her to enter the drama industry because of her father who has been part of the industry, as well. In hardly two years since she made her acting debut, she’s already done three drama serials, signed two web series for Zee5, signed two feature films and is currently working on two more drama serials. However, she says that she has rejected more roles than she has accepted so far.
Her character in Pardes has been getting great feedback, so far. “I signed this drama because I like playing characters that upgrade our women in our stories. A woman should have her own representation.”
Speaking of looks overshadowing talent she stated that her main focus is not to look good but be able to pull the character. She also shared that she was initially told it would be very hard for her to prove herself as an actor.
“Imran Ashraf had once told me that ‘it will be very difficult for you to prove yourself as an actor because of how you look’. And I was like no yaar,” she shared.
“I was always the kind of person who did not want looks to overshadow what I am bringing on the screen,” Dur-e- Fishan confessed. “I always want to do a drama which has a story and I always want to play characters with substance.”
