The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, who are on an official royal visit to Pakistan, made their way to the iconic Pakistan Monument in the capital for a special reception hosted by the British High Commission. Dressed to the nines, the couple arrived in a rickshaw decorated specially for the occasion. It was a moment that went down very well with the masses.
Kate has been making quite the waves with her stylistic choices since she landed in Pakistan late Monday night, however Prince William had only been seen in classic suits and formal wear. Needless to say, people had been waiting to see if he would rock a traditional sherwani or kurta on his visit, and in true royal fashion, he rose to the occasion last night in an emerald green sherwani by local brand Naushemian by Nauman Arfeen.
Kate herself glimmered in a gorgeous, matching green dress by Jenny Packham. A heavily embellished dress, it commanded attention and turned heads, and Kate of course, carried it with utmost grace. She also added a scalloped dupatta with lots of tassels to her look, making it fit for the occasion.
Riding in a rickshaw, which is a cultural staple on the roads of Pakistan be it in Islamabad or Karachi, the royal couple instantly made for a viral trend. Photos and videos were shared extensively almost immediately, and the best part? The man who drove them over. With the sweetest grin on his face that was extremely telling of the pride he must’ve felt for his culture and homeland as he drove a royal couple in a rickshaw, he really made for a heartwarming visual.
The reception was attended by the who’s who of the country, from dignitaries to politicians and members of the fashion and entertainment industry. In attendance from the fashion and entertainment industry were Mahira Khan, Mehwish Hayat, Shaan Shahid, Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir, Hareem Farooq, Atif Aslam, Momina Mustehsan, HSY, Maheen Khan, Kamiar Rokni and Munib Nawaz amongst others.
The royal couple also posed in front of the grand Pakistan Monument, which made for a stunning backdrop at night.
Prince William and Kate Middleton will be in Pakistan till October 18, and will be seen touring the northern region of the country. We look forward to their engagements in the coming days.
