It’s time for the Oscars of the fashion world: the Met Gala 2019. The annual benefit event for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, known for its exclusive guest list and largely for its extravagant outfits, based on a different theme each year held on Monday night.
This year, that theme was ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ that coincided with an upcoming exhibition at the Met, inspired by photographer Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay, Notes on Camp. And like the exhibition, the outfits were based on “irony, humour, parody, pastiche, artifice, theatricality and exaggeration”.
Our favourite celebrities from around the world flocked in New York City to show off extravagance and charisma at this year’s red carpet. Who would not have eagerly waited to find out about the look of the night? Who and what Lady Gaga wore, followed by show-stopping fashion by Katy Perry, Kim Kardashian, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone and many more.
