Syed Jibran may have been a part of the entertainment business for quite sometime but has always got the recognition he deserved in bits and pieces. His recent stint as Sahir in hit drama serial Ranjha Ranjha Kardi has garnered him critics and public applause alike. The actor recently appeared on the show Rewind with Samina Peerzada and spilled some beans about his journey in television and his character in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi.
Not many of you must be aware that Jibran is a qualified doctor but one who has never practiced medicine for even a day in his life. Speaking with Samina Peerzada, the actor revealed that his foray into television was because of a crazy bet he had with his friend.
“I was in third year of MBBS when one day I bunked a lecture and was sitting on the stairs of the cafeteria with my friend. There was this big poster of Zara Sheikh on a wall nearby. We used to sit and admire that poster and all of a sudden my friend said that these showbiz people are from a different breed. I disagreed that they are people like us; it’s just the they have chosen that profession. He said that not everyone can do this and if it’s so easy then don’t you try to be on television? And that’s how we ended up fixing a crazy 100 rupees bet,” Jibran recalled.

That is how it all started for him and for the next few months Jibran kept meeting people at random places to search for work. “I met Laila Zuberi on airport and requested her for work. I went to meet Shehzad Gul through some connections. In my desperation, I even emailed you on a random email address that had your name in it,” he laughingly said, however, Samina confirmed that it is her email address in reality but unfortunately she never replied to those emails.
“In my fourth year of MBBS, I found out that one of the doctors — Dr Wasim Khan — used to write scripts for PTV. He asked me to audition for this series, Ek Kahani, by late Toufeeq Hussain Shah on PTV. I did that, won the bet and all was done and dusted. I never wanted to become an actor; It was just a matter of winning a bet,” he said.

“Later I got a call from PTV to play a lead in an Eid drama and then there was no turning back. I kept on working in different dramas, worked on my Urdu accent. And after completing my final year, I moved to Karachi and started working here for good,” Jibran added.
He also spoke about his character, Sahir, in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi. “It was a very intriguing script for me. I asked the director Kashif Nisar that why do you want me to do it? He told me that this character needs to a mysterious aura. The acting should not reveal what his motives are, what he is planning to do. One should not be able to read into what is going on in Sahir’s mind not even through his eyes, mannerisms or facial expressions. Sahir should remain a grey character that Kashif wanted people to wonder till the very end that ‘Am i truly in love with her (Noori) or am i deceiving her,” he said.
