With the iconic series Game of Thrones coming to an end after eight fulfilling seasons, the stars of the show have taken to social media to pay heartfelt tributes to the characters they’ve played, and to fellow castmates they’ve worked with for almost a decade now.
After the fifth episode of the show’s final season aired on Sunday, viewers were left distressed with the deaths of some of the longest running and most beloved characters on the show, including Jaime and Cersei, the ultimate inseparable sibling duo.
Lena Headey, who played Cersei Lannister, paid sweet tributes to not only her character but also co-actors, with some heartwarming behind the scenes footage on Instagram. Following Cersei’s demise in the arms of her beloved twin brother Jaime as a result of Daenerys Targaryen’s destruction of the Red Keep, Lena finally broke her silence after two days.

“There she goes. It’s been fun, and bonkers,” Headey wrote. “I loved her. I am grateful for the opportunity. Massively thankful for your encouraging and supportive love along the way. And now her watch is ended,” she added.
Reminding the viewers that she isn’t as evil as Cersei in real life, Headey also posted in honor of Missandei, who was played by Nathalie Emmanuel and was beheaded on Cersei’s orders last week. “Beautiful @nathalieemmanuel. You represented hope and true strength. I didn’t like that day up there,” she wrote.

Finally, serving the fans what they really wanted, Headey followed up with a tribute to her onscreen brother and lover, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, aka Jaime Lannister. “When @nikolajwilliamcw and I wore jellyfish… I f****** love you ya big weirdo,” wrote Headey.

Pilous Asbæk, who played Euron Greyjoy also reminisced on his Instagram about the camaraderie he got to share with Lena as Cersei’s lover, albeit for a short time, and with Nikolaj even though Jaime caused his character’s demise.
“Just wanna say… it’s been an absolutely blast getting to know you @iamlenaheadey THANKS for many good hours. Loved working with you!” posted the actor for the woman he risked it at all for.
He also had nothing but gratitude for Nikolaj as well, posting, “Thanks @nikolajwilliamcw Two men enter, one man leaves…. it’s been such a pleasure working with you!!!â€
With just one more episode left for the series to come to a close, it’s heartening to see the actors take their leave in good spirits, giving the audience some respite before the series goes out with an expected bang.
