While celebrities get to enjoy the perks of their star power, being public figures draws a lot of trolling too. Their public appearances and social media presence garner a lot of appreciation, but mostly criticism follows in a society like ours. While constructive criticism is welcome, some stars refuse to care or be judged for their choices.

It has become a common practice for trolls to judge female celebrities based on their red carpet looks. The same happened following the Lux Style Awards 2021 that took place in Karachi on Saturday and many celebs shared her displeasure.

“Every award show ends with a slew of sermonizing comments under the photos of all female celebrities making character judgments about how good or bad she is based on her outfit,” Mansha Pasha tweeted.

“Honestly, this is the real superficiality. Judging a person’s inner nature based on an outfit choice,” she wrote.

Mira Sethi is another actor who shared her views regarding the matter. Taking to Instagram, Mira, who wore an all-black Hussain Rehar outfit for the show, penned a post.

“It’s always fascinating to see trolls go nuts under photos of public-facing women in dresses or costumes or anything the trolls deem ‘vulgar’.”

“Go home. I don’t dress for you,” she added. “I don’t dress for anyone or anything other than my own sense of joy and play and expansion. The men of this country are obsessed with policing women, constantly defining their ‘honour’ in relation to women’s bodies and clothing and appearance. It is a small minded, decayed, hateful thing to do. You want to disempower us because a deep part of you is hurting and angry. I get it. It’s societal and it is ugly.”

“To the women who continue to secularize public spaces with their words and clothes and defiance: you inspire me. On the face of it, it looks merely glitzy and silly, but only those subjected to the heat of abuse know that simply by being — by asserting with our voices and bodies — we are clawing back space from rotten hierarchies of power and control,” she concluded.

Other than the ladies, it was singer Asim Azhar who got mocked for his casual look at the LSAs. He looked neat in an all-black suit for the event, but all the trolls noticed was him wearing jeans and T-shirt on the red carpet.

“For people losing their shit over me wearing a t shirt and jeans in a red carpet interview, bhai, show khatam hogaya tha, performance bhi karli thi, ghar jaa raha tha [the show had ended, so had the performance, I was going to head home] and they asked if I can answer some questions,” he tweeted.

“Show dekh lena drip pura tha bhai ka ok [When you watch the show, you’ll see I was suited-booted],” guaranteed the singer.

Aside from the event, comedian Ali Gul Pir’s recent post on social media received some very toxic comments. He posted an image on Instagram in which he recreated American actor Lili Reinhart look from this year’s Met Gala.

Ali did not approve of the trolls judging him and took a stand against these toxic masculine standards for Pakistani men.

“I will wear what I want to, make want I want to and say what I want to,” he wrote on Twitter. “Nobody will define my masculinity or dictate my creativity. Don’t hate me because I make you feel insecure.”
