Good news for all Ahsan Khan and Saba Qamar fans! Their film ‘Mohabbat Ki Akhri Kahani’, which has been in the pipeline for nearly three years now, is finally releasing. Its title, however, has now been changed to ‘Moomal Rano’.
The film is an Indo-Pak collaboration which has been penned by Zafar Miraj, directed by Sirajul Haq and produced by Zee TV. While it features Ahsan and Saba in lead roles, the other cast members include Salman Saeed and Zainab Jameel. We got in touch with the director and asked him about the change in the title. “It has a higher recall value and since the story is based on the popular Sindhi folklore Moomal Rano, it made more sense,” he said.
On staying low key in terms of promotion, he said, “It’s not a solo project. We’ve worked in collaboration with Zee TV so everything has to be done through mutual understanding. We have been screening it at various film festivals globally and the response has been amazing from the jury. We will now be screening it at the Pakistan International Film Festival (PIFF) in March. That being said, we will be promoting Mommal Rano more on social media in the coming days.”
When asked about his experience working with the lead actors, he said, “Ahsan and Saba are wonderful actors and they fit well into their characters. I could see Romeo and Juliet in them. Ahsan knew how to carry the character effortlessly and so did Saba; they’re both the best at their job.”
Talking about Saba Qamar’s popularity in India, he said, “Moomal Rano and Hindi Medium share the same team. Our film was made before her Bollywood debut, and even at that time, she was praised for her work.
Ahsan Khan, who is also immensely popular in India – particularly after his stellar performance in Udaari — too spoke to us about the project. “Moomal Rano is a film about art and culture. It has been shown at various film festivals earlier, and will now be shown in Pakistan too. Internationally we have received a lot of love and appreciation and we’re hoping the same from our own country too.”
And he is all praise for his co-star, “As for Saba, I have worked with her a couple of times before. She’s an old friend and of course, a brilliant actor.”
Apart from the PIFF, Moomal Rano will soon be aired on Pakistani TV channels as well.
