Having chemistry is crucial for relationships to last; both on-screen and off-screen. Like real life, if a couple doesn’t have that spark, it usually becomes uninteresting or unattractive. In a similar fashion, when actors paired opposite each other do not have chemistry, they fail to create magic.

Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan are a great example of undeniable onscreen chemistry. Fans wait to see the two together. The year 2021 also featured some great pairings that we would like to see again in 2022.

Let’s have a look:

Ali Rehman Khan and Sarah Khan

Laapata was an experimental drama with only 22 episodes, which is a rare count nowadays. Along with other things that are worth appreciating, Ali Rehman Khan’s inspiring chemistry as Shams with his leading lady Sarah Khan, who played Falak, remains the highlight of the drama.

Ali, in fact, had great chemistry with both his female co-stars, Sarah and Ayeza (who played Gaiti). However, Shams and Falak had more romantic scenes together making them more desirable as a ‘haute couple’ we would like to see again.

“Generally, when two people get along, it is easier for them to work together. It is all about mutual respect and the level of comfort co-actors have. I believe if two actors support each other then it automatically translates on screen,” Ali said when asked how he made it possible.

Arslan Naseer and Aymen Saleem

Chupke Chupke was one of the most-watched dramas of 2021. It gave us new talent and a fresh onscreen pairing to obsess over. Arslan Naseer and Aymen Saleem’s characters Hadi and Mishi went viral as #HaShi with fans making several Instagram pages rooting for them.

“Arslan and I are getting a lot of offers as a pair because #HaShi is quite popular these days. So, we would like to read scripts and consider good projects as we owe it to our fans and we don’t want to disappoint them,” Aymen had shared in an interview with Something Haute.

Wahaj Ali and Madiha Imam

Ramazan drama Ishq Jalebi provided viewers both comedy and romance between Madiha Imam (Bela) and Wahaj Ali (Basim). Bela was in love with Basim, but for the longest time he was unaware of her sentiments.
Wahaj and Madiha’s onscreen pairing was refreshing to watch.

Sarmad Khoosat and Shaista Lodhi

Pardes revolved around a married couple, played by Shaista Lodhi ( Zoobi) and Sarmad Khoosat (Ahsan) separated from each other due to unfortunate circumstances. Narrating the story of several Pakistanis who have had to sacrifice their family life due to financial burdens, the pain of the couple resonated with the viewers and left many teary-eyed and emotional.

Shaista and Sarmad’s chemistry in Pardes is the prime reason that the audience remained hooked.

Dur-e-Fishan Saleem and Affan Waheed

If Shaista and Sarmad’s chemistry in Pardes is the prime reason that the audience watched the play, Dur-e-Fishan Saleem and Affan Waheed’s chemistry as Aiman and Ebad  undoubtedly maintained our interest till the end. Their track takes the narrative further showing things from the perspective of a generation that has suffered due to the unfortunate decision.

Danish Taimoor and Minal Khan

Despite having many reservations regarding the plot, portrayal of characters and romanticizing of toxic behavior in Ishq Hai, one cannot deny that that Danish Taimoor and Minal Khan as Shazaib and Isra do have great on-screen chemistry.

Yasra Rizvi and Omair Rana

While Yasra Rizvi and Omair Rana did not play a romantic couple in Dil Na Umeed Toh Nahi as Sawera and Zulfi respectively, they shared great on-screen chemistry. The scenes that they shared were so powerful that fans wanted them to be together.

Sawera and Zulfi looked perfect for each other as Zulfi empathizes with her. She felt comfortable and surprisingly relaxed around him, and he seemed happy to be her source of comfort. Isn’t that what great chemistry is all about?

Mahira Khan and Zahid Ahmed

Prince Charming is a web series, however, that cannot stop us from stating how amazing Mahira Khan and Zahid Ahmed look together. The 11-minute short shows Mahira as Sheherzad, a dutiful wife to Akbar, played by Zahid Ahmed, who is a workaholic, and a doting mother to her daughter, ironically named Wafa. Sheherzad was promised a ‘Prince Charming’, but she is still longing for the love that she was promised and trying to fill her need for compassion.

Relying solely on expressions, the narrative is strongly supported by Ahmad Faraz’s poem ‘Suna Hai Log Usay’ in Mahira and Zahid’s powerful voice.
