Earlier this week, Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji faced serious backlash after she made problematic comments about the #MeToo movement while on Rajeev Masand’s Actresses Roundtable 2018. The Hichki actress suggested that in order for women to feel protected, they should take responsibility for themselves rather than expecting men to change. Now, Kangana Ranaut has reacted to the former’s comments about the movement.

Kangana who is busy promoting her forthcoming film Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi was asked about her thoughts on Rani’s statement to which she responded, “People who need support, who need to be empowered, we must empower but if our society can produce a woman like Rani Laxmi Bai, then why not, they must not be discouraged,” Times Now reported.
Kangana, who has repeatedly commented on grave issues like nepotism and sexual harassment, added that we should also not discourage strong women who can stand up for themselves as she herself filed her first FIR when she was 16-years-old. “Like I said, [give] empowerment [to those] who need, they should be empowered, who need. But, not necessarily everyone needs [to be empowered]. Some people can give empowerment also. Some people are givers, the ones who can, should be encouraged to give strength, people who are working with NGOs,” she said.
