Lata Mangeshkar’s ‘Chalte Chalte‘ from the film Pakeezah is an iconic song composed by the great Ghulam Mohammed and penned by Kaifi Azmi. Featured on the legendary Meena Kumari the song has been embedded in the brains of many.
The recent Bollywood trend of remixing classics, however, has led to a rendition of ‘Chalte Chalte‘ as well and it appears Lata is not happy. The remix version has been sung by our very own Atif Aslam for upcoming film Mitron, while the music and lyrics are given by Tanishk Bagchi.
Although Atif is known to almost always impress, his ‘Chalte Chalte‘ cover received mainly negative feedback with many criticising the makers for ruining a classic track.

This trend of remixing old songs saddens me,” she added. “Where is the creativity in simply lifting acknowledged, beloved classics and shuffling the notes around? I’ve even heard that the lyrics are changed in the remixes. By whose consent?” she added.
“The original poets and composers wrote what they had to. Nobody has the right to tamper with the creativity of these great composers and lyricists,” Lata said.
We wonder what Atif Aslam has to say about this. Meanwhile here’s his version:
