Moving forward in its journey, Coke Studio Season 11 has reached its third episode. However, are things slowing down for the music platform?
Releasing three songs in an episode titled ‘Rung’, this week stars Ataullah Khan Esakhelvi and his son, Sanwal Esakhelvi for ‘Allah Karesi’, Fareed Aya and Abu Muhammad for ‘Piya Ghar Aya’, and Momina Mustehan and Sahir Ali Bagga for ‘Roye Roye.’
Which of the three tracks won hearts this week? We have the lowdown…
Roye Roye
Starring breakout stars from the last two seasons, ‘Roye Roye’ features Sahir Ali Bagga and Momina Mustehsan in their true romantic aesthetic. Crooning to a lovelorn ballad, the duo manages to create a strong track, which by far leads in the list of romantic tracks released by Coke Studio in its 11 seasons. However, having said that, it’s also nothing new due to its Bollywood-esque nature. Does one hate it or love it? It’s difficult to decide.
Allah Karesi
It’s never a dull moment on the Coke Studio platform when Ataullah Khan Esakhelvi and his son Sanwal Esakhelvi are present, and ‘Allah Karesi’ is a testament to that. Penned by Majboor Esakhelvi, the song is an ode to the old and the new, as EDM meets classic Seraiki tunes. However, is it a successful venture, that we’re not sure about. Call us connoisseurs of the classic, but can EDM really make for an interesting mix in front of organic, mellifluous ethnic lyrics? We don’t think so.

Piya Ghar Aaya
Perhaps the magnum opus of the episode, Fareed Ayaz and Abu Muhammad have managed to create magic once again by reviving the classic ‘Piya Ghar Aaya’. Once made famous by the ethereal voice of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the track finds new life in the classic Qawwal ways of the duo. Managing to make the listener experience a myriad of emotions, Coke Studio Season 11 surely has found a winner in this rendition.
