It seems you can have your Cake and eat it too!

According to the team behind the film, the Asim Abbasi directorial has managed to make a whopping box office opening collection of PKR 3 Crore globally over the opening weekend!

The news was broken via social media by the film’s team, who put up a post marking the feat.

“The love came slowly but grew steadily!” the post said. “Almost unanimously applauded by the critics,
Cake is our humble attempt at giving Pakistani cinema a new (alternative) direction and we are grateful to everyone around the globe who came out over the weekend to see it!”

We also got in touch with Adnan Malik to speak about the milestone.

“We need a film like Cake to do well at the box office so that other producers, who are gatekeepers of the industry, are inspired to put money into other films like Cake,” Adnan said. “This film has to inspire others to tell more personal stories that aren’t cookie cutter, derivatives of Bollywood. Though we have gotten a tremendous critical response and a lot of love from people who have seen it, it’s essential we get more people to the cinemas to watch it ASAP so the box office numbers support the acclaim! So please, if you liked the film, convince 5 more people to go see it this week!”

Although Cake has managed to surpass all box office expectations, Punjab Nahi Jaungi still holds the record for the quickest opening weekend collection. PNJ collected an approximate of PKR 3.10 Crore from the very first day of release, whereas the second and third-day earnings, remained at about PKR 3.50 Crore and 4.10 Crore, respectively.

Cake stars Aamina Sheikh, Sanam Saeed, and Adnan Malik in pivotal roles and has managed to receive rave reviews locally and internationally for its screenplay.
