With the third season of the Pakistan Super League coming to an end this weekend, cricketer Shahid Afridi has weighed in on the exclusion of India from the tournament, hoping for an even bigger affair next year!
Speaking to the media, Afridi opined that more foreign players need to visit Pakistan and convey the message that our country is safe. “I know it is difficult that they will come as they only play in the Indian Premier League, but we should invite them to the next edition of the PSL,” Afridi commented. He said he is aware that Indian players had contracts that didn’t allow them to play in other foreign T20 leagues but an attempt should be made to at least try to invite them over for the PSL.
Afridi stated that only those overseas players should be a part of the PSL who respect the need and right of Pakistan to host international matches. He said the decision to invite the West Indies for a three-match T20I series in Karachi was also a positive move by the PCB, and further advised the board to ensure that more one-day matches are organized in the country.
Earlier this year, Afridi won many hearts on either side of the border when he promptly told an Indian fan to hold up the Indian national flag while posing for a picture in Switzerland. Seems like the star cricketer is making a conscious effort of promoting peace and cross-border friendship and we’re all for it!
