At a press conference held over the weekend, Qawwali maestro Rahat Fateh Ali Khan addressed the media to make various announcements. The main one of them was the formation of RFAK films, which will release a musical as its debut film next year.
The musician also spoke about Coke Studio’s rendition of ‘Sayonee’, pushing aside all criticism saying, “I personally like that track; I used to like it a lot from back in the day too…people may not have liked it but I really like our music.†Rahat went on to label the negative feedback as “anti-Pakistan music reviewsâ€.
Rahat also announced his special tour as a tribute to Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, which will include 48 concerts around the world to celebrate the legend. Further speaking about the importance of new platforms to promote local music, the star commended the efforts of Pepsi’s Battle of the Bands and Coke Studio, and suggested the idea of some sort of institution to bring forth qawwalis.
