Atif Aslam, who can be termed as Pakistan’s biggest international star, has donated Rs2.5 million for the construction of the Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams. He was in Islamabad this weekend, when he met with Chief Justice Saqib Nisar and presented the cheque.
Latest statistics suggest that collections for the construction of the dams is about to reach PKR 2 billion, raised by citizens in Pakistan and abroad.
While one segment of society is opposing the way funds are being raised – saying the state needs to be run like an institution not a charity – another is wholeheartedly supporting the cause. And yet another segment of people, mostly the comics on social media, are consistently generating fake news of international celebrities donating huge sums for the cause. We have super generous donations from ‘Mark Zuckerberg’ and ‘Cristiano Ronaldo’, amongst others.
In a more genuine news release, Pakistan umpire Aleem Dar has announced that he is going to contribute $10,000 to the dams fund project.

We’re delighted that Atif Aslam has contributed to the cause and feel that he may have inspired other popular artistes to do the same. Let’s wait and see who else rises to the occasion…
